His Will

6/5/16

To My friends in 중랑
I am not dead! I'm alive and well.  Miss you all a lot!  Keep being awesome.  Thanks for always treating me like family, and encouraging me and my korean.  I saw a jumprope the otherdayㅎㅎㅎ
행쇼!

So today I wanted to talk about God's will. and Prayer ... ya... I've learned a lot about prayer on my mission...

So this one time Momma took me to Mcdonalds and I was 2. She talked about this story like this "I drove up and you saw the playground-- germ infested ;) you were so excited to go play on everything and went straight from the car to the fence trying to squeeze through. When I wanted to take you around to the front and order food etc you were beside yourself as the playground got further away from what you could see. It actually broke my heart because I could see that you had no idea I wanted to bring you to that wonderful playland--my words were not convincing. I think you thought I didn't understand what you were trying to say, but I knew all to well. ;) Just as Heavenly Father knows your desire. You only could see me taking you away from the very "goal, dream, desire," that you wanted, that you asked for. We had to wait our turn to order, wait for our food, and then finally you were able to enjoy the fullness of your desired destination.

I have pondered about that story many times when what I think I want gets further out of grasp, when I am trying to follow God. Knowing that if I am patient He will help me get to that destination. Other times he has taken me to a far better place than I ever could have imagined on my own. The journey can be faith building, challenging, even heart breaking, but ALWAYS when I trust in HIM the journey is easier and more joyful. The outcome is pure goodness, when I have let go of my will for His."

I can't really say more than my mom.......... but the bible dictionary said this...
We pray in Christ’s name when our mind is the mind of Christ, and our wishes the wishes of Christ—when His words abide in us (John 15:7). We then ask for things it is possible for God to grant. Many prayers remain unanswered because they are not in Christ’s name at all; they in no way represent His mind but spring out of the selfishness of man’s heart.

I think that has been my problem.... probably my whole life. But I think I am getting better at prayer and I challenge you to evaluate your own prayers :)  We have to  be okay with the possibility of going around the fence to get to what we want most. Which in a lot of cases means trials and learning patience haha :) It may mean having complete faith in our Savior that He will always guide us to where we desire to go or even to a higher place when we seek His will.

I know we will have a better when we Seek Him!!!

Counterfeits and Transfers

Doesn't this look like a great deal?!?!  I feel this is what Satan does to us.  He offers us these deals of agency. He promises things that seem big but in reality are really small. W10,000 is $10 dollars..... haha  I was thinking about that. How someone who does not understand what Wons are would be really confused and probably excited to spend that much.  I feel that the Devil works the same way a lot of the time.  He promises temporary thrill without any sustainable happiness.  I am so grateful for the gospel that allows us to distinguish from real happiness and satan's counterfeits.
PS being a missionary makes you think deep... about EVERYTHING!

Quotes well funny

Me: I knew of this one guy whose name was Abinidi Burns
Elder Besinger: What the? Did his parents name his brothers Shadrach, Meshack and Abindigo? and make their middle name didn't?

Patience. gah. ya its back. I love it.
I had a really cool experience with a struggling member the other day.  They called and I felt prompted to share D & C 121:7 and as I shared the scripture I felt like it was God sharing that scripture with me. :) it was a super cool experience :)

By the way, I was transferred and I am training the Sweetest, most humblest sister ever. She is from the Philippines.

Exchanges and the Fun

May 1, 2016

Exchanges

Well this week I went on an exchange with the amazing Sister Phillips!!! She is awesome!! She served on the military base for 5 transfers!!!! Which is the english speaking part of the mission. and her Korean is still pretty good! She is an awesome teacher and has so many cool stories from the post!!! So glad I was able to learn from her.

One fun thing though...
She hasn't been to a Korean meal in a while... haha and we had already eaten when someone invited us to eat.  Lets just say it was a struggle.  We started off with some rice cake which to be fair we were both dehydrated and this stuff was really really dry. I couldn't even swallow and we had to find a way to get all of it down. but i did ask for water in a very sneak way haha. but then there was main course! Super good. There is this part of Korean culture... it doesn't matter how full you are, you never reject eating more food at a meal... and every time I accepted more food sister Phillips looked at me like she was going to lunge over the table hahaha love her to death. She did so well . soogosoogo!

Quote of the week
If our jong is stronger than her fear of water, we have one! (baptism)- Sister Ooju

Language fails
It's not a lost in translation... it is just sad... I forgot the words to I am a child of God in english... My comp went to harmonize with a descant and I couldn't remember the original words or tune... but we sang it in Korean and I could do it fine........ Struggle bus.......

Tribute to my sister
HEY Sister Shayley Shaver!
Congratulations on returning with honor!!! I am so proud of what you have accomplished! You have done such a great work and brought so many people closer to Christ! :)  I love you!!!
Obviously there is more... but alas time.

We did some music proselyting.  Our mission president put 2 of the 3 most brilliant musical minds I have ever known and put them in the same companionship! They are rocking it!!! So cool! Hopefully we start seeing results from it.

I love everyone!!! Keep working hard :)

Transfers!!! Music and Miracles!!!

Transfers!!! Music and Miracles!!!

My new companion is the beautiful and talented Sister Ouzounian! She is amazing and so musically inclined it's crazy.  She also brought a bunch of miracles to that area! :D

The biggest miracle is that someone showed up to church with her grandma and wants to learn more about the church! This daughter of God is so prepared! :)  We are so happy to have a new investigator as a lot dropped off rather suddenly the last few weeks. The Lord really is at the helm because we have also had former investigators call and want to meet with us.  So many miracles :)

Shadrach
SO we go to this service where we help made food for the elderly. It is really fun!

Anyways.. at this service we were put in the corner with the veggies that just came out of the ground and we were cutting off the roots. and putting the leaves in a basket.  When all of a sudden I found a snail on one of the leaves. We were immediately best friends. Realizing that his presence would probably not be welcome in a kitchen; we determined that we must rescue him and set him free. He managed to stay alive as we hid him from the other helpers in the kitchen and then eventually we found a suitable home and released him into the wild.
 Be free Shadrach. Be free.

Hooks and Bites
So there is a really cool mormon message about fishing. I am not really a fishing person to be honest... mostly cause i haven't gone enough and maybe a lack of patience... but anyways.  Watch it and then read this... or just read this.

We all have addictions- things we like or just do that aren't good for us either physically, emotionally, spiritually or all three.  One of mine was biting the inside of my lip when I got nervous or anxious or felt stress in general.  I had tried to stop for probably 10+ years.

When I was in the MTC I realized that as a representative of Jesus Christ I needed to get rid of this annoying habit and that the only way I could really do that was through Christ's atonement.  I diligently tried to quit and when I messed up I would say a prayer right then and there and repent.  I was able to stop, and I haven't had a problem since then. It has been a year :)  Miracles happen. I know that through the atonement we can overcome any aliment.

This may seem small, but it has made a huge difference in my life. I am so grateful for my mission, so grateful for the atonement, and so grateful to a loving Heavenly Father who gave me both. :)

Love to you all.

Wheelchair and Guided

April 10, 2016

Sorry there are no pics this week we only have an hour for email so dont really have time for that and to email a lot of you.. sorry!! Please Keep emailing me though I LOVE reading them! :)

Hey so I fell over.... Y'all I literally fell on my face in the biggest train station probably in the world trying to catch this light... and sprained my ankle.... but didn't know.. when the whole day and then on the way back I could not even put weight on it... it was crazy... ahahahahaha..... we lost our phone and I was sitting there in the station watching my comp flag down a phone and call the zl.  We finally made it to our own station and the zl brought a wheel chair... can't believe I would be in a wheel chair on my mission.... I was sitting with my foot elevated planning zone training and then we took a break for dinner and I tried reading the Ensign trying not to cry haha.. Y'all my mission means soo much to me.. I am so happy God called me here and I prayed harder than I prayed when I got here. Which was a lot haha. and I then had this peace come over me and I knew that it would work out.  I am fine now :) well mostly........ but definitely glad to be out of a wheelchair.

Guided

So I was on exchanges, and I was with a younger missionary that was feeling kind of stressed about a few things.  I really wanted to help her achieve her goal for exchanges and during personal study I had 5 min left and I still hadn't really figured out how to help her.  I said a little prayer and asked God how to do it.  The Holy Ghost said, " She has the answers, you need to help her find them"  So I wrote down several questions on a sticky note and gave it to her during Comp study. I asked her to read and answer the first one.
She read, What do you think the Lord wants you to do?
She then said, I Don't know. That's what I am trying to figure out.
The next question: What is your purpose?
Her answer: To bring others to Jesus Christ by faith.
I asked: Now how are those two questions related?
Her face immediately light up as she realized she had answered her own question.  Then the next thing I had on the sticky note was now do a role play where she would teach about faith to someone who was already reading scriptures and prayers and going to church.
through the roleplay she taught us both what we both already knew, but it was a really powerfully learning experience for both of us :)  The Holy Ghost is awesome, ask and you will be guided :)

Just Decaffeinate!

April 3, 2016

On the menu

So we got a surprise meal by these really sweet amazing members.  They are really the coolest.  They were feeding us fruit that was delicious, and then one of the elders happened to be allergic. So the sweet sister pops up from her place on the floor and is like I have just the thing; runs to the kitchen and grabs a fresh sweet potato.  It was the most adorable thing ever.  So she cut up this raw sweet potato and was convincing us that they don't need to be cooked haha.  Basically it tasted like a starchy carrot.  We will just say some of the missionaries were more excited than others for the experience ... haha but hey learn something new everyday.

Quotes of the Week

Every time the timer rang even if there were NO cookies in the oven. "They're done!"~Elder Weiss

One of the Elders in a panic.
"My girlfriend just shot up to 5 11" (he is 5 11)
whole district: BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

So we went to america last week. I don't have pictures cause I am paranoid that the computer is going to swipe my SD>..... but it was really fun!!!! Seriously so many americans. It was really america hahaha even the food court. surreal.... super fun though :)
.
So and old missionary shared this and I thought it was pretty cool. and I agree... haha so here is the spiritual thought for today :)

Decaffeinated.

You all know like in MTC, there is decaffeinated drink at the store and restaurant (right?). I think that is the first time for me to see the word 'decaffeinated'. But if you think of it, the word 'decaffeinated' is such a great word. The prefix 'de' and 'caffein' and '-ated' which just indicates that there is no caffein, caffein has been removed, got rid of.

We all need a decaffeinating time of our life.
Sometimes just look back and see what we have done heretofore, try to decaffeinate what has bothered you during the time being. Hey when you feel little polluted and little 화난다 then just decaffeinate.
