Hakuna Matata

July 24, 2016

Lion King. I don't know why it ends up being Lion King that keeps coming back in my mind ... but I was looking on our positivity chart and it said, Put the past in the past, which isn't that Hakuna matata? So that is my focus.  We can't change the past.  Then I was thinking about how the sacrament is basically saying Hakuna Matata and I will be better through Christ... So we get to Hakuna Matata every week!  I am so grateful for the atonement and for our chance to start over refreshed every Sunday as we take the sacrament and as we repent daily.

Have a wonderful week!!

Serving the children is a very tender experience.
The East Stake missionaries and full time missionaries worked together for a community proselyting event.  We had four stations: bookmark making, cookie decorating, face paint, and balloon art.

When it is so hot we get a little cray cray!

Isn't she so fun! Love her!

A Foundation needs a Builder

July 17, 2016

Lost in translation
So my companion when she was a new missionary.  She was asking people to put a sticker on the board, but then her trainer told her she had actually been going around asking people to please die....... pronunciation....... save lives hahahahahaha

A Foundation

I was pondering Helaman 5:12 (Book of Mormon) I have always been drawn to the truth that "it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation;

Recently the words ye must build  really stood out. I must be a builder! This choice ... the action required moved me deeply.  I've known that in order to accomplish any goal we need a sure foundation.  Then we can build desires and motivation on that foundation. Then We must act on those desires because faith without works is dead right? Yes, it is one of those head knowledge truth that became heart knowledge. I must consciously choose every moment of every day to make my Savior my foundation, my rock that cannot break because He is the Son of God and has done all so that you and I can overcome all things of this world by holding onto all things that truly matter.

I am grateful for the examples in life we can follow. Most importantly I am so very grateful for my Savior Jesus Christ who was the perfect example. We can choose to follow Christ! In all of life's choices.  We can make him our foundation.  Our foundation in Jesus Christ will give us the desire and the hope that we long for and as we act on that hope and follow him we can truly find happiness in this life and the next.

Love you all.

Captain Moroni is a Beast!

July 10, 2016

Lost in translation

There once was a trainee who instead of using the word for immersion= cheemsue, used the word for decapitation=chamsue
We receive baptism by chamsue.... whooops

Captain Moroni is a Beast.

So I was thinking and reading about Captain Moroni. My life goal is basically to be a female Captain Moroni.  Cause . . . he is awesome! He became a general commander in chief at 25. I was thinking, how did he become so awesome? In Alma 43:24 says that he listened to Alma, the prophet of God, to know where the armies are,  verse 19 says that he made everyone wear their armor and that he was always thinking and pondering about people's motives and that the Nephites had good motives. That is why he was willing to lead them basically (and that it was God's will, of course).

Moroni gives all the glory to the Lord even while talking to the enemy. He also stops the shedding of blood at the soonest sign of surrender.   I also can relate to him because he gets angry with stubborn and ignorant people . . . of which I am sometimes guilty . . . which gets us both into trouble sometimes. haha. Anyway. Learning from the scriptures. I am going to apply all those things. Just call me Captain Shaver. ;)

Love to you all,

Sister Shaver

Families are Forever!

July 3, 2016

Quotes

I showered at the beginning of the wet season and my hair never dried......-me

Well I think something I learned this week was people with broken families can understand (if they chose) the doctrine of eternal families more clearly than anyone else.

I have been talking with some people this week and throughout my mission who just shine as examples of faith. Their home life might not have been the best growing up or even currently. However, because of that they let it increase their faith and let it strengthen the importance of family in their lives.  They know the heartaches that come from living without a Christ center home and they do all in their power to prevent others from having to go through that heartache.  I admire them so much.  They are such examples of faith.

If your family situation isn't ideal do not give up.  Don't lose hope in have a happy family life.  You can create the happy family you desire.  I know it, I have seen so many people do it. If you are already married with a family and it is not ideal, you can be an influence on your children.  You can love your spouse.  I know that no matter where you are you can make the difference in the lives of those around you. If you are still growing up and family life is not what you want, you can be the example, and later you will be able to create the Christ centered home you long to have. God loves you.  He wants you to be happy. Families can be together forever.  I know that this is true in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen

"How can I help things go right?"

June 27, 2016

So this past week was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOT!!! I was dying.... really I was thinking..... it's only June?! I also worked out a little harder than normal so my muscles were super achy. "I am going to literally melt......." I thought.... I was mentioning this to my comp and she was like. Its not that hot... and then I felt her head and my head. TURNS OUT I had a fever. HAHAHAHAHAHA I am fine now fear not Mom.  But I realized that we do that a lot in our lives.  Or at least I do. I blame my discomfort and unhappiness on external things when in reality my heart is sick or I am the one with the problem.  I do that often without recognizing it.  I really need to be better.  So I have set a goal to evaluate myself every week and think, "How can I help things go right?" So at least even if it is crazy hot outside I won't have an extra burden on top of it. It is so much easier when we let Christ take our burdens and we just focus on doing what we need to be doing and should be doing. :)

Love,

Sister Shaver

That is our purpose as missionaries to help people apply what Christ taught. It is amazing to watch people change their lives and find it again when they lose themselves in Christ.  The light really is sooooo much brighter from their eyes.  I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve a mission :) I wouldn't want to be doing anything else. :)

We Mustache you a question?

June 12, 2016

Sister Marillo is my wonderful greenie! She is seriously the best. She is so full of faith and hope and has such strong testimony and personal experiences about all aspects of the gospel. She is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good at Korean. Seriously she is a million times better than I was as a trainee. She is diligent she is obedient. She is the best! I just love her!

So I am preparing a talk for church... I AM SUPER NERVOUS haha but I will probably give it this transfer... that's the goal. hold me too it haha :)
It is a hard language and I still feel really inadequate a lot of days. However, I know that the Lord truly does qualify those he calls WHEN he needs them to be qualified haha sometimes not as soon as we want. :)

So I was thinking today about how much time we give to our physical well-being (hopefully).  I mean the soul has 4 sides. Physical, Emotional, Intellectual and Spiritual.  How well do we spend time balancing these for parts?

It is so important to get the full balance.  We spend like 2 hours eating and 6-8 sleeping? how much time do we spend feeding our intellectual through study? Emotional talking with family and friends and writing in a journal.  Spiritually preparing ourselves everyday with prayer and scripture study? Yes of course there is some overlap in these areas.

I was thinking a lot about this.
2 Nep 32:3 feasting on the word of God
and also Man cannot live by bread alone. We must learn to balance ourselves in all the areas.

My challenge to each of us is to try and find more balance in our lives, :) take a self reflection. That same question, "What lack I yet?" I think I need to write in my journal more. It can be very therapeutic. and the Lord as told us to do that . . .  so probably good for us! :)

What will you do?

Love to you all,
Sister Shaver
