MY MTC LIFE!

Officially I've been gone 15 days! 45 days left until Korea, but who is counting? ;) Actually I LOVE the MTC.  It is so much fun.  I am learning to love Korean even though my brain doesn't think that way at all.  My companion is the best.  For reals!

Things I think are funny.

Once upon an Australian:

I am really learning two languages.  We have SYL(Speak Your Language) days for Korean, where you have to use as much of it the entire day as you can, and I decided P day is my Australian SYL day. It's totally working, totally got someone to think I wasnt from America today, but lying in the MTC is probably a double sin so I caved and said I was just SYLing Australian. So the Sister Tuis (twins from australia in my district).  Have a lot of different words for random things.  Like a marker is called a texter. trash can= rubbish bin.  water fountains are taps. chalkboard eraser is called a dustar(probably spelt duster but that is how they pronounce it). now for a not so random joke.
What do you call 2 melons that can get married?
Cantelope! well Australians call Cantaloupe, rock melon, which ruins my favorite melon joke...  not that I have that many jokes about melons.  but it really just makes me feel meloncollie ;) jokes... okay sorry those jokes were really bad, but we, who are easily entertained have more fun. Especially in the MTC.

Quote of the day
"I don't know what this is, but I found it on my plate. Do you want it?" -Sister Schur to me referring to some questionable mushy breaded ??????
I didnt eat it.

Uplifting thoughts

Before my mission I really thought I would miss dancing horse back riding family and the rest of my life back home, but the Lord has kept the homesickness at bay at least for now.  I have felt very supported through my short journey so far.  It has been wonderful.  I am so grateful for the Lord's love.

Also, prayer is such an amazing thing.  Our God really wants, to hear from us and he wants to bless us :)  Just last week I asked for help increasing my faith so I was given a trial that required me to be diligent in constantly seeking his guidance, and then Tuesday I asked for more service opportunities, and two MTC guests/investigators(sometimes mormon, sometimes not) approached me asking questions about the restoration and then they asked me if we could meet up later, which was different cause usually they find the english speaking missionaries.  I hope I brought some clarity to their questions and they were definitely and answer to my prayer :)

ALSO my awesome sister shared something on her blog, so i will just leave this here:
"In church we had a class on prayer and a funny story was shared that I thought I should share. So a silly woman is praying and she prays that she will win the lottery. She didn’t win. Then the next time she prays again to win the lottery. Doesn’t win. Then the third time she is praying to win the lottery she hears the voice of the Lord and He said, “Well work with me here, buy a ticket!”

I think the true key to prayer is that we need to learn to be the solution to our own problem. That we can’t just pray and wait for Heavenly Father to fix it for us, we need to pray as though everything depends on God, and then work as though everything depends on us."- Sister Shaver(redhead)

First Week at the MTC!

HI! How do I sum up my first week at the MTC?! Well first off shout out to those that already wrote me!! I love hearing about your lives, and insights in scriptures, MTC life, mission life, and real life ;). Unfortunately I am not observant and just realized all the home addresses are written on the top of the emails... haha. so I will write back now. :)
Well first off, my companion is the BEST companion EVER and I mean that! She is from Australia, and she is a twins with another sister in a district!!! Different missions!! CRIKEY!!! (I received permission before saying that) She is so insightful and also was already studying Korean before her call!! So she has been really helpful and patient with me as I catch up. :) Isn't she adorable?!
This is my district.
Yes there is only one elder(insert 20 million circumstantial rules here). They are hilarious and I feel blessed to be edified by their strong testimonies in Christ. :)
UPLIFTING So while I was feeling really discouraged about the language we bought Korean hymnals, and the first song in the hymnal is the song my grandmother wrote!!! It was a tender mercy that filled me with love for my grandmother and songs of praise. It reminded me how much God know our needs and that he does have a plan. Some would call it a coincidence, I would call it a little miracle. :)

FUNNY I won't spend a lot of time on this but, the food. I have a vs that sums it up nicely. Jer 4:19... I'll just say it is a good thing we are feasting on the good word cause it is the only nourishment in this place haha.... jk... sorta. I have become good friends with the salad bar and the guacamole. :)

OKAY so learning Korean... As Shayley would say, " The struggle is real." It is seriously the hardest language I have ever studied. yay for new alphebets, completely backwards sentence structure and new sounds that I physically can hear. Good thing we have the gift tongues!!
While learning though it is rough. If i were learning english the conversation would be going like this. Teacher: Sister Shaver, what is the i before e rule? Sister Shaver: I before e.... Always... Teacher: What are you a sweet spirit sister? Sister Shaver: Apparently! Teacher: It is i befroe e except after c and when sounding like ay in neighbors and weigh, and on holidays and all throughout May and you will always be wrong no matter what you say! Sister Shaver: That's a hard rule... #brianReagangetsme #strugglebus

Lucky for me I have really patient and awesome teachers haha. I am so grateful for their awesome teaching skills. I'll get it eventually. The Lord decided I needed humbling... haha Okay I know I promised comics, and i have a comic worthy story just need to draw it. I might have earned a nickname... but. In the meme time....
Also, Scripture of the Day 3rd Nephi 13:34 :)

The Call

So This is the first of many poorly hand drawn comics, and even worse handwriting. Yes that is mine. Yes I am a girl. and no Mom I dont plan on being a doctor.  Anyways, This is the day I got my call, which feels appropriate to reflect on as I leave in less than 24 hours. AH!

Sometimes I struggle with my english...
My aunt Maria served in Korea too :) hence dad called her
Mom just didn't see this coming :P

Now I am basically on that mission! Time flies! After it has already past...
